Made to Measure Curtains

What is English toile curtain fabric?

A 'Toile de Jouy' is traditionally a type of printed calico with a characteristic floral, figure, or landscape design on a light background, and translates literally to ‘cloth from the town of Jouy’.  Floral and pretty toile fabrics fit perfectly with the notion of the English countryside.

Vanessa designed a contemporary toile called For the Love of Rose, perfect for Made to Measure curtains. It depicts a Bohemian couple living in a shepherd's hut and making their way through life by working on the land and with their animals—some of which are depicted on the design, including a goat reaching up to eat the last few leaves from a tree. This was originally created by my daughter Rose, which for the overall concept was also inspired by my other daughter, Flora, who introduced a permaculture project to our garden and is passionate about a simpler way of living. For the Love of Rose has consistently proven to be a popular topic of conversation over the years, especially with children!

This toile is printed on 100% linen and can be used for curtains, and all soft furnishings. The design particularly suits lovely long curtains, especially lined and interlined. Equally the story filling the full width of the fabric makes for really lovely blinds.

The fabrics that coordinate with this lovely toile are in my Bohemian Collection so you can consider Pretty Maids, Gypsy Garland, Leaf Dance and Stockholm Stripe. These designs were all conceived at the same time and sit next to each other very comfortably in any room. Other designs that work just as well are Simple Ticking Detail, French Ticking, may Blossom and Plain Linen Unions.

Please ask for fabric samples and see the colours in your rooms. If you order a half metre returnable sample you can drape it over an existing chair or pin it to your present curtains and see how it looks. All our fabrics are printed in the UK on a good weight of 100% Linen and Linen Union making them suitable for curtains, blinds, cushions and upholstery. We hold a good stock of all our fabrics ensuring delivery is usually within 3-5 working days, with an overnight service available by phone call request. The same team who takes your order will roll, inspect and cut it, so accuracy and quality can be assured.

How to measure up for your curtains:

A video guide to help you measure up

Please remember that pattern repeats and fabric widths are automatically calculated if you order through our website. It is advisable to fit your pole or track before ordering your curtains. Your pole or track should ideally extend 30cms on each side of the window so when drawn back light is maximised and at least 15cms above the top of the window to block out as little light as possible again. Please use metric units only when measuring.

Poles:

WidthIf you have a pole, measure the distance between the finials. (A)

Finished Length for pencil pleat, triple pleat and double pleat - when measuring the finished length using a curtain pole, we recommend allowing between 2cms and 5cms above the eyelet on the underside of the curtain ring, depending on how much of the pole and rings you wish to hide. From the measurement you choose above the eyelet, measure down to the bottom of the hem (see B & C) and that is your finished length measurement.

Finished length for cottage pleat (choice of either 5cm or 10cm depth)- these have to be made using a 3cm single position tape, which makes the finished length non adjustable. To measure the finished length for this header, please provide us with the distance from the eyelet to the floor, and depending on your choice of depth, add 5cm or 10cm accordingly.

Finished length for flop over frill - these curtains have to be made with a 3cm single position tape which makes the finished length non adjustable. To measure the finished length for this header, just give us the measurement from the eyelet to the floor. Don't add any extra for the frill, we will do that.

Please note, we will add 25cm for hem allowance.

Tracks

Width - If you have a track, measure the total length of the track, including any overlap where the curtains meet in the middle.

Finished length: For pencil pleat, triple pleat and double pleat - when measuring the finished length of your curtains using a track add 1cm above the track (to hide the track) down to the bottom of the hem. (D)*

Finished length for flop over frill curtains - these have to made with a one inch single position tape which makes the finished length non-adjustable. To get your finished length measurement, just give us the measurement from the eyelet to the floor and don't add any extra for the frill as we will do this.

Please note, we will add 30cms for hem allowance.
