Made to Measure Curtains

Will your woven linen fabrics make beautiful Made to Measure curtains?

Yes absolutely! Our Made to Measure curtains from our woven linens are a must. There is something very special about hand woven fabrics, which in this case are hand-loomed with incredible expertise and love.

Most are made from 100% Linen, with the Malmo in Linen Union. These fabrics are a beautiful collection of timeless woven stripes where the pattern is integrated into the fabric through weaving rather than printing. The yarns are dyed and then intricately woven together.

The IKAT part of the stripe, (a characteristic of IKAT fabrics is an apparent irregular "blurriness" to the design), is created here by screen printing the colour onto the warp (north to south) threads, and then the weft (west to east) is woven across them producing the irregular and famous IKAT shapes.

Vanessa loves the colour and texture of woven fabrics as well as the handle and feel of the spun yarns. Designing the Scandinavian woven fabrics for this collection has taught her a great deal. These Scandinavian fabrics have a strong Nordic theme, from the Lapland Stripe, which is inspired by the rural life and simple landscapes of the Sami people in Lapland, to the more contemporary feel of the Scandi Stripe, which Vanessa has produced in two striking colourways: Warm, and Cool. Nordic Stripe brings a warm chestnut brown I have called "Reindeer." And last but not least, Malmo, a vibrantly coloured striped design with blue, red, and orange embroidery diamond motifs running vertically.

We can make all these into exquisite curtains for you as part of our Made to Measure curtain service, all bespoke to your measurements.

Please ask for fabric samples and see the colours in your rooms. If you order a half metre returnable sample you can drape it over an existing chair or pin it to your present curtains and see how it looks. These 100% Linen fabrics are traditionally handwoven in Southern India and Linen and are particularly suitable for curtains. We hold a good stock of all our fabrics ensuring delivery is usually within 3-5 working days, with an overnight service available by phone call request. The same team who takes your order will roll, inspect and cut it, so accuracy and quality can be assured.

How to measure up for your curtains:

A video guide to help you measure up

Please remember that pattern repeats and fabric widths are automatically calculated if you order through our website. It is advisable to fit your pole or track before ordering your curtains. Your pole or track should ideally extend 30cms on each side of the window so when drawn back light is maximised and at least 15cms above the top of the window to block out as little light as possible again. Please use metric units only when measuring.

Poles:

WidthIf you have a pole, measure the distance between the finials. (A)

Finished Length for pencil pleat, triple pleat and double pleat - when measuring the finished length using a curtain pole, we recommend allowing between 2cms and 5cms above the eyelet on the underside of the curtain ring, depending on how much of the pole and rings you wish to hide. From the measurement you choose above the eyelet, measure down to the bottom of the hem (see B & C) and that is your finished length measurement.

Finished length for cottage pleat (choice of either 5cm or 10cm depth)- these have to be made using a 3cm single position tape, which makes the finished length non adjustable. To measure the finished length for this header, please provide us with the distance from the eyelet to the floor, and depending on your choice of depth, add 5cm or 10cm accordingly.

Finished length for flop over frill - these curtains have to be made with a 3cm single position tape which makes the finished length non adjustable. To measure the finished length for this header, just give us the measurement from the eyelet to the floor. Don't add any extra for the frill, we will do that.

Please note, we will add 25cm for hem allowance.

Tracks

Width - If you have a track, measure the total length of the track, including any overlap where the curtains meet in the middle.

Finished length: For pencil pleat, triple pleat and double pleat - when measuring the finished length of your curtains using a track add 1cm above the track (to hide the track) down to the bottom of the hem. (D)*

Finished length for flop over frill curtains - these have to made with a one inch single position tape which makes the finished length non-adjustable. To get your finished length measurement, just give us the measurement from the eyelet to the floor and don't add any extra for the frill as we will do this.

Please note, we will add 30cms for hem allowance.
