Vanessa has designed a collection of warm and cool neutrals to create soothing and calm interiors.
Neutral tones create a timeless interior, but this does not need to be dull and boring; by layering different shades and using texture a neutral scheme will be interesting and relaxing.
Neutral fabrics can range from muted Duck Eggs and Limestone, to Creams and sophisticated shades of grey, such as Dormouse, Dove, Scree, Clay, and Charcoal.
You need to choose the best shade for your room by considering the way the room faces, the amount of light you get and the atmosphere you want to create. Do you want a light and airy room or are you trying to create a warm and cosy scheme?
Using these neutrals in living rooms and bedrooms creates a relaxing feel and is suitable for all types of homes – from city apartments to country houses: We would recommend creating a mood board so that you can see how the different shades and textures you have chosen work together.
To do this you need to collect samples of the items you are using. You can also include images of things you have used for your inspiration for example photographs or cutouts from magazines.
What are the best neutral colours for decorating the home?
To make the scheme interesting try mixing stripes, spots and florals in neutral tones with your Plains. For example, you could choose a neutral fabric for curtains such as Plain Linen Union Duck Egg, and then use gentle florals like the Cow Parsley in Duck egg and Cornflower for the cushions. Another option would be to use velvet as a curtain fabric; this would create a luxurious feel and add another texture. We can make curtains and more as part of our Made to Measure service.
Neutral upholstery fabric really suits furniture, see the range of colours in the Plain Linen Union range, from Clay to Duck Egg, Mushroom and Scree.
What are the best uses for your neutral fabrics?
If you're looking to create or add to your neutral interior, we have a great range of neutral coloured curtain fabrics and upholstery fabrics to suit your needs for blinds, curtains, lampshades, cushions and upholstery.
We recommend our neutral fabric collection for blinds in soft and gentle colours, with animal motifs and plant prints to bring the beauty of nature to your interiors. Cotton and linen fabrics offer an earthy aesthetic and a unique, tactile texture, making them a fine choice for upholstering soft furnishings.
If you want to add just a splash of colour to your neutral interior, you could introduce this as a bold piece of artwork. You could also add a bit of sparkle by having a Saffron yellow Pretty Maids Lampshade, hand made to order by us. Neutral colours for rugs are so useful and will fit into any room scheme. See the hand woven rugs and runners in colours such as Mouse, Bracken and Smoke, which are gentle in their neutral tones.
The neutrality of the colour means that they will subtly match all decors whilst still providing the warmth and look of any other curtain design. In recent years, neutral room settings have become extremely fashionable with many homes around the UK favouring this design.
