Made to Measure Designer Cushions
When should I use dark coloured Cushions in a room?
Light colours are expansive and airy, making rooms seem larger and brighter. Dark colours are sophisticated and warm; they give large rooms a more intimate appearance.
If you use a darker tone on the curtains with lighter walls, this will emphasise the structure and architecture of a room. Dark Fabrics can create a dark, moody and glamorous room, offering a sense of calm for a truly relaxed environment. Not only do they often create a cosier, more comforting atmosphere than some of their lighter counterparts. Dark coloured cushions work very well in spacious interiors or high-ceilinged rooms to visually shrink the space and give it a cosier vibe.
A lot of richly pigmented tones have a sophisticated, almost luxurious feel to them and are a good choice for creating a welcoming and intimate interior scheme.
If you have dark fabrics, you can also consider making the walls dark too, then you will need to introduce lighter tones and colours with upholstery and paintings. Dark colours recede.
Our most dramatic dark colours are Winter grey (a very dark printed grey, almost black in colour), Charcoal grey, Plum, Reindeer brown, Cranberry red, Light Lichen green, and Cornflower blue.
- The Winter colour adds drama to any room, as seen in Up the Garden Path.
- Our lovely dark and warm Charcoal comes in Gypsy Garland, Branching Out, Little Fern, Sepals and Petals, Flora and Fauna, and Plain Linen Union.
- Plum purple can be used as curtains for a darker feature in the room as seen in the May Blossom and Fruit Garden, both with hints of Kale green in the design which you can integrate in the room as an extra colour for piping etc.
- Reindeer brown is on a Scandinavian Woven fabric where the colours are woven into the wave, as opposed to dye. It includes Raspberry red in the vertical stripes, making it really striking as curtains.
- Cranberry Red can be understated as a dark colour, but add them as curtains in your room and they'll soon stand out. Designs include Cow Parsley and Acorn and Leaf.
- Light Lichen is an indulgent dark green, a beautiful backdrop to your room as curtains. Up the Garden Path, Fern and Dragonfly, and Little Fern are all great curtain choices.
- Cornflower blue is a bit of a softer dark colour you could consider for curtains, with the main designs being Gypsy Garland, Cow Parsley, Sow and Scatter, Stripe and Dash, and Plain Dotty.
