Which shades of blue do you have in your fabric range for curtains?

Blue is a favourite colour for many people and is the most preferred by men. It calls to mind feelings of calmness and serenity, research has shown that people are more productive in blue rooms!

There are of course many different shades of blue as with all colours; from the cooler shade of Cornflower and Indigo to the softest shades of Lake Blue velvet curtains and Speedwell. Cornflower has a 'blue jeans' tone and more of a presence, looking wonderful in a larger room and hallways.

Our Teal blue is a warmer blue with a little bit more yellow added in, turning it towards the greens and making it a popular choice for blue curtains in day rooms such as a kitchen: Up the Garden Path, By the Sea, In Full Flight and Pretty Maids designs all come in this colour along with stripes and spots to coordinate.

Next comes a lighter tone and Vanessa's favourite, a Chinese blue called Powder Blue, seen in Fruit Garden and In Full Flight, with coordinates in Sepals and Petals, and Pretty Maids.

Speedwell is a soft and gentle tone making pretty blue curtains for bedrooms and bathrooms, especially exemplified in Fern and Dragonfly. Vanessa added a little yellow to the Speedwell, as seen in the designs Fern and Dragonfly, Little Fern, Wild Fern, Swallow dive, and Up in the Air.

For very soft grey blues, we move into the ever-popular Duck Egg. This colour is quite hard to describe but wonderful to live with. Our Cow Parsley print is the most popular design in this shade.

What other colours do blue curtains go well with?

There are many other colours you can team with blue, namely Saffron yellow, Raspberry red, Tangerine and Pumpkin orange, and Damson pinks. These are all warm colours which complement the cooler blue so well.

We combine these colours already for you in the following designs, in particular: Pretty Maids, Stockholm Stripe, Fruit Garden, May Blossom, and Lattice Leaf.

You can also add in the second colour through upholstered furniture, blue cushions, or even in a  blue fabric covered lampshade or bed quilt.

All these can be made for you through our Made to Measure service. Please ask for fabric samples and see the colours in your rooms. If you order a half metre returnable sample you can drape them over your existing shades, or just in situ to where the shade will go, and see how it looks.

All our fabrics are printed in the UK on a good weight of 100% Linen, and Linen Union, making them suitable for lampshades, curtains, blinds, cushions, and upholstery. We hold a good stock of all our fabrics ensuring delivery is usually within 3-5 working days subject to availability. The same team, who takes your order will roll, inspect and cut it, so accuracy and quality can be assured.

How to measure up for your curtains:

A video guide to help you measure up

Please remember that pattern repeats and fabric widths are automatically calculated if you order through our website. It is advisable to fit your pole or track before ordering your curtains. Your pole or track should ideally extend 30cms on each side of the window so when drawn back light is maximised and at least 15cms above the top of the window to block out as little light as possible again. Please use metric units only when measuring.

Poles:

WidthIf you have a pole, measure the distance between the finials. (A)

Finished Length for pencil pleat, triple pleat and double pleat - when measuring the finished length using a curtain pole, we recommend allowing between 2cms and 5cms above the eyelet on the underside of the curtain ring, depending on how much of the pole and rings you wish to hide. From the measurement you choose above the eyelet, measure down to the bottom of the hem (see B & C) and that is your finished length measurement.

Finished length for cottage pleat (choice of either 5cm or 10cm depth)- these have to be made using a 3cm single position tape, which makes the finished length non adjustable. To measure the finished length for this header, please provide us with the distance from the eyelet to the floor, and depending on your choice of depth, add 5cm or 10cm accordingly.

Finished length for flop over frill - these curtains have to be made with a 3cm single position tape which makes the finished length non adjustable. To measure the finished length for this header, just give us the measurement from the eyelet to the floor. Don't add any extra for the frill, we will do that.

Please note, we will add 25cm for hem allowance.

Tracks

Width - If you have a track, measure the total length of the track, including any overlap where the curtains meet in the middle.

Finished length: For pencil pleat, triple pleat and double pleat - when measuring the finished length of your curtains using a track add 1cm above the track (to hide the track) down to the bottom of the hem. (D)*

Finished length for flop over frill curtains - these have to made with a one inch single position tape which makes the finished length non-adjustable. To get your finished length measurement, just give us the measurement from the eyelet to the floor and don't add any extra for the frill as we will do this.

Please note, we will add 30cms for hem allowance.
