Made to Measure Curtains

Which of your fabrics make suitable Curtains for kids?

The beauty of Curtains is that the surface when drawn, is flat and children can really enjoy looking at the patterns and the scenes.

Vanessa can still remember the fabric in her bedroom when she was a little girl. Children are so observant and have to time to gaze and day dream so it is important to give them pictorial fabrics to feed their wonderful, creative imaginations. Children lie awake for bed more than we do and are eager to look around and absorb their surroundings.

Vanessa's eldest daughter, Rose, drew all the animals in our design Wild and Free, inspired by cave drawings and Etruscan cases seen on her many visits to the British Museum. If that won’t feed the imagination of little ones we're not sure what will! Also, Vanessa's younger daughter, Flora, drew the fun bird for Bird Hop.

By the Sea is a wonderful scene for gazing at, with people walking their dogs, sailing boats and lighthouses; Vanessa's husband drew these images after a weekend visit to Mousehole in Cornwall.

For the Love of Rose is another beautiful, pictorial fabric design depicting a couple living off the land surrounded by their animals and shepherds hut that they live in; the hut being everyone's favourite focal point!

These fabrics will grow with the children, they are not exclusively for ‘little people’ and you won’t have to change the blinds as they grow up; children’s become very attached to the familiar.

These designs are printed on beautiful linen and come in lots of gorgeous colours.

Children's bedrooms and playrooms can look really wonderful with Made to Measure Curtains that can brighten up and transform any children’s bedroom, playroom, or nursery.

If you simply cannot decide which is best, blinds or curtains in a child or kids bedroom, then why not try using both? Doing so provides privacy, gives you design options for adding more colour and pattern, and chances to dress your windows nicely.

You can choose to have blackout lining to discourage early morning waking.

The Pretty Maids and Stockholm Stripe all coordinate beautifully with them and work well as coordinates for a chair, cushion, or bed head.

All these fabrics are printed in the UK on a good weight of 100% Linen and Linen Union and are suitable for curtains, blinds, cushions, lampshades and upholstery. We hold a good stock of all our fabrics ensuring delivery is usually within 3-5 working days with an overnight service available. The same team, who take you order will roll, inspect and cut it, so accuracy and quality can be assured.

How to measure up for your curtains:

A video guide to help you measure up

Please remember that pattern repeats and fabric widths are automatically calculated if you order through our website. It is advisable to fit your pole or track before ordering your curtains. Your pole or track should ideally extend 30cms on each side of the window so when drawn back light is maximised and at least 15cms above the top of the window to block out as little light as possible again. Please use metric units only when measuring.

Poles:

WidthIf you have a pole, measure the distance between the finials. (A)

Finished Length for pencil pleat, triple pleat and double pleat - when measuring the finished length using a curtain pole, we recommend allowing between 2cms and 5cms above the eyelet on the underside of the curtain ring, depending on how much of the pole and rings you wish to hide. From the measurement you choose above the eyelet, measure down to the bottom of the hem (see B & C) and that is your finished length measurement.

Finished length for cottage pleat (choice of either 5cm or 10cm depth)- these have to be made using a 3cm single position tape, which makes the finished length non adjustable. To measure the finished length for this header, please provide us with the distance from the eyelet to the floor, and depending on your choice of depth, add 5cm or 10cm accordingly.

Finished length for flop over frill - these curtains have to be made with a 3cm single position tape which makes the finished length non adjustable. To measure the finished length for this header, just give us the measurement from the eyelet to the floor. Don't add any extra for the frill, we will do that.

Please note, we will add 25cm for hem allowance.

Tracks

Width - If you have a track, measure the total length of the track, including any overlap where the curtains meet in the middle.

Finished length: For pencil pleat, triple pleat and double pleat - when measuring the finished length of your curtains using a track add 1cm above the track (to hide the track) down to the bottom of the hem. (D)*
