A Toile be Jouy is traditionally a type of printed calico with a characteristic floral, figure, or landscape design on a light background, and translates literally to ‘cloth from the town of Jouy’. Floral and pretty toile fabrics fit perfectly with the notion of the English countryside, and would make a stunning lampshade.

Vanessa's daughter designed a contemporary toile which is called ‘For the Love of Rose’, perfect for Made to Measure lampshades. It depicts figures and landscapes on a natural cream linen background. This toile design comes in four beautiful colourways from the ever popular Clay and Damson, to the earthy Dusky Pink with Whippet, and the brighter Saffron and Charcoal.

'For the Love of Rose' fills up the whole width of the fabric, with its story about a Bohemian couple who are living in a shepherd’s hut, making their way through their lives by working on the land. This toile print fabric is printed in the UK, can be used to make Made to Measure Lampshades.

This romantic English toile fabric was inspired by Vanessa's daughter Rose’s drawings of a goat trying to reach up to eat the last green leaves on a tree, and also by her other daughter Flora’s passion for a simpler way of living and the permaculture project she has introduced into their garden.

Each bespoke lampshade is beautifully made in our local workshops by professionals, and hand finished with great care and attention. Our makers use traditional methods and take real pride in what they do. With Made to Measure, there is no need to compromise; you can create a unique look with your choice of fabric and those important finishing touches that will complement and coordinate your home.

There are four shapes to choose from: empire, drum, pleated, and candle (always sold as a pair), along with several size options. You can choose a second fabric to line the lampshade; applicable to drum lampshades only.

You can buy our fabrics in 10cm increments, starting at 50cm, and make your own lampshade. Alternatively, you can use our Made to Measure service and we will make one, especially for you.

Please ask for fabric samples and see the colours in your rooms. If you order a half metre returnable sample you can drape them over your existing shades, or just in situ to where the shade will go, and see how it looks. All our fabrics are printed in the UK on a good weight of 100% Linen, and Linen Union, making them suitable for lampshades, curtains, blinds, cushions and upholstery. We hold a good stock of all our fabrics ensuring delivery is usually within 3-5 working days subject to availability. The same team, who takes your order will roll, inspect and cut it, so accuracy and quality can be assured.
