Made to Measure Roller Blinds
What pink fabrics do you have to make Roller Blinds from?
Vanessa loves pink with pink with pink! Mixing soft shades such as my Mallow and Lily Pink with the stronger shades of Damson and Sweet Pea, is so delicate and indulgent. The colour is cheery, sophisticated, and pretty.
Sweet Pea is the brightest and most strident pink and makes up striking pink roller blinds, in Pretty Maids and Stockholm Stripe.
Damson pink is a bluer softer tone and features as the mid pink shade in so many of my designs, see Gypsy Garland, Cow Parsle, and Fruit Garden, to name just a few. It makes the most beautifully delicate soft pink curtains which is why it is Vanessa's favourite soft pink fabric.
Mallow is halfway to Lily Pink and looks stunning made up into “Mallow is halfway to Lily pink, and this pink upholstery fabric from this range can make stunning curtains or a playroom in Wild Fern, Litte Fern, and Lattice Leaf.
Lily Pink is the softest prettiest pink in Branching Out and Tea Time, both pink fabrics would suit being made into made to measure dusky pink blackout blinds or curtains for bedrooms, kitchens and playrooms.
Dusky Pink has a more vintage bird feel with more brown mixed in with it, see Up the Garden Path.
How to decorate with pink roller blinds
Think of pink as a neutral — it works with any decorating scheme, Multiple shades of pink combine with crisp white create a warm and cosy feel in a bedroom. With the patterns used stay away from overtly childish themes, sticking instead to classic rose pink floral fabrics for a timeless look that can age with your child. See my Lazy Daisy design and Wild and Free. They woud all make really lovely made to measure roller blinds.
Colours that complement pink Roller Blinds
A touch of green can ground a pink decorating scheme, such as the Kale in my Fruit Garden designs and also Sepals and Petals. Give a natural look a garden spin, with blooms of pink. Mix with plenty of light wood tones, neutral linen fabrics. Try pink and green fabrics in more muted tones for a formal living room: Kale and Damson in Fruit Garden, mix beautifully with wicker furniture,
Pinks also like to be paired with softer shades of grey, such as Scree and Clay in my For the Love of Rose, French Ticking and the large bird print, In Full Flight.
My Dusky Pink is a vintage pink fabric: Pink here is really faded red; it’s pink with a past, like a colour that has softened over the years, which gives the room a mature, wise air. This is particularly good for a pink upholstery fabric for sitting room chairs and sofas: see my Pretty Maids, my modern day Toile: For The Love of Rose and Stockholm Stripe where I have mixed old Rose Pink with a gentle brown called Whippet.
With greens, greys and soft powder blues being the best complimentary colours with Pink choose my Damson mixed with Kale, Scree or Charcoal: see Fruit Garden Detail and Stockholm Stripe and In Full Flight. In my 100% linen woven fabric, Lapland Stripe, I mix a soft pink with pigeon grey and soft blue.
Pros for choosing Roller Blinds:
GREAT FOR INSIDE A RECESS – Roller Blinds are a great option if you want to install a blind inside a recess because they are really easy to fit, lightweight, practical, easily adjustable with beaded chains (or ivory cord), and visually very stylish.
PELMETS - if you have your blind inside a recess, you can choose to have a smart, perfectly pattern matched pelmet that covers the roll at the top revealing the reverse lining; this is approximately 11 cm deep. It has revolutionised the use of Roller Blinds, making them much more attractive and usable in all rooms of a house!
MAXIMUM LIGHT – if you want to allow in as much natural light as possible, Roller Blinds may be the better option over Roman Blinds. With Roller Blinds, the fabric rolls up at the top of your window and will take up about 9 cm of space.
CENTRAL PULL – with a Roller Blind you can have a centre pull which can be handy on a window behind the kitchen sink. This comes with an ivory coloured cord and wooden acorn.
LOWER MAINTENANCE – once you have pulled up a Roman Blind you sometimes have to handle the folds as they can get caught in the cords, you don’t have this problem with Roller Blinds. It is just one piece of fabric that is adjusted with either a continuous beaded chain to either the left or right hand side of the blind, or as previously mentioned, a centre pull.
TREATMENT OPTIONS - We offer three different finishings on our Roller Blinds: Laminate, Blackout, and Processed. The laminated backing is a lining bonded onto the face of the fabric (no lamination takes place to the face fabric). Blackout is an off-white lining, which again is bonded to the fabric but is ideal for privacy. And Processed is just the fabric on its own with that has a clear stiffening spray applied to it for rigidness.
STYLISH IN DESIGN - You have a lot of creative freedom when it comes to the finished look of your Roller Blind. In addition to a pelmet, you can also add a 5 cm contrasting bottom border. Any of our other fabrics can be used for this, for example Gypsy Garland in Dove, with a bottom border in Stockholm Stripe - Dove, Winter. You could also opt for a Plain Linen Union in Saffron border instead, to go with the Gypsy, depending on the other colours in your room. The choice is yours to coordinate as you see fit!
Also if you can’t reach the top of the window at all easily, a roller blind with a pelmet to hide the roll might be the right choice as you will have no need to reach to the top ever…maximum size for roller and roman blinds is 240cm x 240cm
All these can be made for you through our Made to Measure service.

How to measure up for your Roller Blind:
Inside a window recess
Width: Measure the width of the recess from the left to the right (see E on the diagram)
Length: Measure from the top of the recess to the bottom (see E on the diagram)
YOU ONLY NEED TO PROVIDE US WITH THE FULL RECESS MEASUREMENT - the maker will allow for the rolling mechanism when making the blinds (There will be a gap of about 1.5cm between the fabric and the recess wall which will allow some light through, even with a blackout lining)
Outside a window recess
Width: Measure the outside of the window recess (see F on diagram) and add at least 5cms on each side to minimise any light leaking through.
Length: Measure from the required position above the window (we recommend adding at least 5cm), to the length you require (see F on the diagram)
This also applies to blinds that will be fitted to the outside of a door recess, we only need the width and length that you would like the finished blind to be.
Please note that if your roller blind is outside the recess, we have to allow for the mechanism at either side of the roller blind, which is usually 1.5cm each side. For example, if you want the fabric width of your blind to measure 100cm, you need to specify this upon placing your order as 'finished fabric width', otherwise our makers will assume it is the recess width, and cut the fabric down to 97cm with the remaining 3cm for the mechanism, i.e. 100cm full fabric width + 3cm for mechanism, making the final recess width 103cm.
Your Roller blinds will be delivered complete with hanging instructions and fittings.
