Which pinks do you recommend for curtains?

Pink curtains can offer an exciting and vibrant finish. Mixing soft shades such as Mallow and Lily Pink with the stronger shades of Sweet Pea and damson, is so delicate and indulgent. Our pink curtains are cheery, sophisticated, and pretty.

Sweet Pea is Vanessa's brightest and most strident pink and makes up striking pink patterned curtains in Pretty Maids, or even Stockholm Stripe.

Damson pink is a bluer softer tone and features as the mid pink shade in so many of our designs, see Fruit Garden, In Full Flight, Gypsy Garland, and Cow Parsley designs, to name just a few! It makes the most beautifully delicate soft pink curtains which is why it is Vanessa's favourite soft pink fabric.

Mallow is halfway to Lily pink, and this pink upholstery fabric can make stunning curtains for a playroom. See Wild Fern or Lattice Leaf designs.

Lily Pink is the softest prettiest pink, and is available in Branching Out, Wild Fern, Lattice Leaf, and Little Fern designs.

Dusky Pink has a more vintage feel with more brown mixed in with it, as seen on the Dawn Chorus design.

How to decorate with pink curtains

Think of pink as a neutral — it works with any decorating scheme, multiple shades of pink combined with crisp white creates a warm and cosy feel in a bedroom. With the patterns used, stay away from overtly childish themes, sticking instead to classic rose pink floral fabrics for a timeless look that can age with your child. See the Lazy Daisy and Wild and Free designs.

Colours that compliment pinks

A touch of green can ground a pink decorating scheme, such as the Kale in my Fruit Garden designs, and also Sepals and Petals. Give a natural look a garden spin, with blooms of pink. Mix with plenty of light wood tones, neutral linen fabrics. Try pink and green fabrics in more muted tones for a formal living room: Kale and Damson in fruit Garden, mix beautifully with wicker furniture.

Pinks also like to be paired with softer shades of grey, such as Scree and Clay in For the Love of Rose, French Ticking and the large bird print on In Full Flight.

Dusky Pink is a vintage pink curtain fabric: Pink here is really faded red; it’s pink with a past, like a colour that has softened over the years, which gives the room a mature, wise air. This is particularly good for a pink curtain fabric for sitting room: see Pretty Maids.

How to measure up for your curtains:

A video guide to help you measure up

Please remember that pattern repeats and fabric widths are automatically calculated if you order through our website. It is advisable to fit your pole or track before ordering your curtains. Your pole or track should ideally extend 30cms on each side of the window so when drawn back light is maximised and at least 15cms above the top of the window to block out as little light as possible again. Please use metric units only when measuring.

Poles:

WidthIf you have a pole, measure the distance between the finials. (A)

Finished Length for pencil pleat, triple pleat and double pleat - when measuring the finished length using a curtain pole, we recommend allowing between 2cms and 5cms above the eyelet on the underside of the curtain ring, depending on how much of the pole and rings you wish to hide. From the measurement you choose above the eyelet, measure down to the bottom of the hem (see B & C) and that is your finished length measurement.

Finished length for cottage pleat (choice of either 5cm or 10cm depth)- these have to be made using a 3cm single position tape, which makes the finished length non adjustable. To measure the finished length for this header, please provide us with the distance from the eyelet to the floor, and depending on your choice of depth, add 5cm or 10cm accordingly.

Finished length for flop over frill - these curtains have to be made with a 3cm single position tape which makes the finished length non adjustable. To measure the finished length for this header, just give us the measurement from the eyelet to the floor. Don't add any extra for the frill, we will do that.

Please note, we will add 25cm for hem allowance.

Tracks

Width - If you have a track, measure the total length of the track, including any overlap where the curtains meet in the middle.

Finished length: For pencil pleat, triple pleat and double pleat - when measuring the finished length of your curtains using a track add 1cm above the track (to hide the track) down to the bottom of the hem. (D)*

Finished length for flop over frill curtains - these have to made with a one inch single position tape which makes the finished length non-adjustable. To get your finished length measurement, just give us the measurement from the eyelet to the floor and don't add any extra for the frill as we will do this.

Please note, we will add 30cms for hem allowance.
